Natural Beauty Favourites for a Clear, Glowing Complexion

Updated: Mar 17, 2019

Is it possible to get a clear, glowing complexion without using chemical laden beauty products? Absolutely! Here are a few natural, facial skin care products I use and love.

With the rise in fertility issues, cancer, eczema, allergies, and autoimmune conditions, reducing our chemical & toxic metal exposure simply made sense to me. Products should be as natural as possible, cruelty free (no animal testing) and safe for the environment and our wildlife, not just us.

But they also have to work! I have spent a small fortune over the years trying to find the best natural but effective beauty products. Finally, I feel happy with my selections. Though with new ones being added to the market daily, it just keeps getting better and better.

Remember you can check the ingredients and safety of your personal products by visiting The Environmental Working Groups database.

1. doTERRA Facial Cleanser

2. Tailor Skincare Oil Cleanse

3. Essano Rosehip Moisturising Creme Cleanser

Despite an oily t zone and the odd pimple every now and then, my skin is actually quite dry. I find that anything that strips my skin of moisture makes my skin more oily as my body attempts to compensate. Apparently drying out the skin, is the one big mistake many acne sufferers make.

All of these natural skincare products make me feel clean and clear without losing vital moisture.

My favourite is the doTERRA facial cleanser which has the benefit of pure Tea Tree & Peppermint essential oils. These oils are known for their ability to cleanse and tone skin and support a healthy-looking complexion. Natural cleansers of Yucca Root Extract and Soapbark Extract gently wash away impurities leaving skin looking clean, fresh, and smooth.

With the Tailor product it seemed odd to use a bunch of oils to cleanse the skin, but it worked. Well, it won a Best in Beauty award in 2017, so maybe that counts for something. Surprisingly, it consists of only 6 entirely natural ingredients and is made in NZ! Not sure if it is right for you? Try the mini kit which includes a scrub/mask & moisturizer.

For a cheaper option you can try Essano's Rosehip Moisturising Creme Cleanser. This soap-free blend of skin-loving ingredients is designed to promote a radiant complexion without drying. It is 98.76% natural. 10.2% organic. Plus it's sustainably produced. You'll find it in most supermarkets or pop it in your next order.

Face serum/oil

1. Sallubelle Anti-aging Beauty Blend by doTERRA

2. Frankincense essential oil

3. Antipodes Apostle Skin Brightening Serum

I will admit I'm a little biased, as I love my doTERRA essential oils. One of the first oils I discovered the benefits of, was Frankincense.

Clients saw strange rashes, redness and blemishes disappear within just a few days of use. (Especially when combined with Tea Tree).

I was told it was a "face lift in a bottle"! So I thought I'd give it a go. No, I didn't have some miraculous face lift, but I did notice an evening of my skin tone, less acne, and fading of my pigmentation.

Pigmentation is unfortunately a big issue for me. Pregnancy, hormonal issues, sun exposure, picking pimples and stress are common causes.

I did find this study to back up the frankincense claims, but to be fair, there was a major conflict of interest (like many studies though).

More recently I discovered Salubelle, doTERRA's anti-aging beauty blend. (It is called Immortelle in the US).

Along with frankincense, it contains other essential oils used throughout history for their beautifying benefits. It brightened, lightened, toned and reduced fine lines and wrinkles. I'm an absolute fan. Now, it's not cheap, but it is potent and can be diluted with jojoba or coconut oil or your moisturizer so it will last for months. You need to try it!

Prior to my introduction to doTERRA oils I used a New Zealand made Antipodes product designed to target pigmentation, brighten skin and restore even tone. It was lovely and certainly another option to consider as it also has great reviews.

Facial moisturiser

1. doTERRA - Essential Skin Hydrating Cream

2. Antipodes Manuka honey skin brightening light day creme

3. La Mav Hyaluronan Daily Moisture Creme

Everyone has different skin types and needs, so what works for me might not work for you. However, there are three brands I love, doTERRA, Antipodes and La Mav.

The last two trans Tasman rivals are organic, high quality and luxurious. Australian made La Mav also has a fabulous BB Creme that I use over the summer.

New Zealand made Antipodes is award winning and eco-conscious, with formulas inspired by New Zealand's nature.

doTERRA have a few moisturiser options. However I can only comment on the one I've tried and use regularly - Essential Skin Care Hydrating Cream.

This cream is packed with emollient-rich ingredients and even probiotics to provide intense hydration to the skin, without leaving an oily residue.

Now I've thought about trying doTERRA's Verage range, but since I'm perfectly happy with this product, I just don't see the need.

This moisturizer leaves my skin, soft, smooth and supple; especially when combined with doTERRA's facial cleanser, scrub and Salubelle beauty blend.

It must be said that beautiful skin also comes from the inside. Adequate hydration, a healthy clean diet, a good nights sleep, reducing stress and avoiding alcohol and sugar are probably your best choices when it comes to achieving a clean, clear, glowing complexion. As we say, you've got to nourish to flourish.
